A fresh smelling home is just a nicer place in which to spend time. There are some simple and inexpensive ways to make your home smell great without using chemicals.
Spray It Fresh
Fill a small, clean spray bottle with about 4 oz. of water and add 10 drops of essential oil. Purchase small bottles of essential oil in vanilla, citrus, eucalyptus, peppermint, and other scents. I recommend testing your spray on an inconspicuous area if you want to use it on furniture.
Blow It Fresh
A few drops of essential oil on a new disposable furnace filter will spread the scent through the whole house.
Simmer It Fresh
Use your stove to inject a pleasant scent into the air. In a small saucepan filled with water add thin slices of lemons and oranges for a light citrus scent. Try adding herbs to the citrus. Rosemary and thyme both have pleasant scents. Cinnamon sticks simmering on the stove will make your home smell as if you’ve been baking! Experiment with combinations of herbs, spice, and fruits or whatever you have on hand to find your favorites.
Steam It Fresh
The bathroom is a great place to leave smelling fresh. Tie little bouquets of herbs like lemon balm, eucalyptus, and rosemary and hang them where they won’t get wet. The steam from showering, shaving, and bathing will make your bathroom feel like a spa.
Roll It Fresh
Add a few drops of essential oil to the cardboard tube inside the roll of toilet paper. As the roll turns on the holder the pleasant scent you’ve chosen is spun into the air.
Lift It Fresh
You can also put a few drops of the same or a complimentary essential oil on the inside of the toilet lid. Each time the lid is lifted or put back down a little fragrance will waft out on the air.
Light It Fresh
Dab a few drops of essential oil to a cold lightbulb. When you turn on the light the oil will warm and spread the scent around.
If you use essential oils to make your home smell fresh I’d love to hear from you!
