15 Decorating Ideas That Won’t Break the Bank

It’s possible to change the look of your home both inside and out relatively inexpensively. Here is my list of 15 decorating ideas that won’t break the bank to give you inspiration for you own home.

  1. Install a chair rail and paint above and below in two different shades of the same color. Chair rails are easy to install with stick on molding!
  1. Display your favorite photos on a tabletop. Just arrange the photos in a somewhat haphazard fashion on the table then cover with plexiglass or glass cut to fit the table top.
  1. Make your lamps look new by changing the lampshade. Pick a different color and style than the current ones.
  1. Get a new shower curtain. Other than paint or wallpaper the shower curtain is the largest single décor item in the bathroom. A new shower curtain is an instant and inexpensive bathroom makeover.
  1. Use frames picked up at flea markets or yard sales to highlight other objects like decorative plates or several small mirrors.

  1. Paint the kitchen cupboards for an updated look without the cost of a kitchen remodel.
  1. Replace dated cupboard handles and drawer pulls to really make the kitchen seem brand new.
  1. Paint the ceiling. Most people default to a white ceiling with buttery shades, grey-blues, and lavenders draw the eye upward, making the room seem larger, without being harsh.
  1. Put a display shelf in a small bathroom or powder room for extra storage and a pretty new look.
  1. Make a bench using three flea market wooden chairs and a long piece of wood. Remove the seats of the chairs and stain the chairs and the wood the same color then attach the wood to the frames of the chairs.
  1. Change your house numbers to a larger size with a fanciful but fitting design. Not only will your home be easier to locate but it will look great.
  1. Paint your front door. Nothing freshens up the look of the exterior of the house like a fresh coat of paint in an unexpected color. Try something that really pops against the rest of the exterior.
  1. Update your welcome mat. A worn mat makes your house seem tired and old. A new mat is much more welcoming!
  1. Add a seating area to the front of your home. Whether you have room for seating on your porch or even if you don’t have a porch a seating area makes your home feel welcoming. If you don’t have room or don’t have a porch try putting in a simple brick or slate patio area near the front door and furnish it with flea market furniture recovered in outdoor fabric.
  1. Line the pathway to the door with solar lighting or container gardens. You can even plant herbs and other edibles in container gardens!
