Why I Thought I Needed Viagra

Before I begin I want to make something very clear. I am now and have always been female. This, you might think, would preclude me from the whole Viagra line of medications. But, no! I wasn’t ever going to disclose this story but Mr. Comfortable, no doubt out of revenge for the “If the police should ask..” story, insisted I share why I thought I needed Viagra.

Slow Cooker Pot Roast

This week I decided to take it easy making our weekly dinner with Pete’s family. And there’s not much easier than putting everything into the slow cooker and walking away! I love my slow cooker! I’m making the meal here and I can carry the slow cooker to Pete’s. The lid on my slow cooker locks so I don’t even have to worry about spills in the car! This week’s family dinner is Slow Cooker Pot Roast!

Blogs You Should Check Out 4

Ruchi’s Veg Kitchen is the perfect place to find vegetarian recipes but there’s so much more! If you’re a dessert lover like me you’ve got to check out Ruchi’s blog! I mean No Bake Oreo Nutella Cheesecake? Oh, yeah!

Bern Bakes is another must-read if you love baking! Bernadine is the baker I want to be when I grow up! With her Cranberry, Raisin, and Lemon Biscotti I could die a happy woman!

Make it Ultra is not the kind of blog I usually read but Eric has some really insightful posts that I think can benefit everyone. 5 Easy Steps to Stay Motivated is an example. We all need a little nudge sometimes!

Recipe in a Bottle is another great blog if you’re a foodie! Baked Brie Bites is a total “must make” for me!

Home, Hugs, Huskies is Lindsay’s utterly lovely blog. She is an author, illustrator, and mom to kids and dogs! Throwback; My Son Looks Just Like His Dad had me spraying coffee all over the keyboard with the first picture!

Jean’s No Knead Herb Bread

If you’ve read some of my early posts you’ve read about my friend Jean. She was Nanny Jean to my kids and not only a beloved friend but my mentor in so many ways. Jean was patient in her teaching as I was a very young wife and mom. I was really nervous when she told me she was going to have me make bread for the first time! But she taught me a really simple, really delicious way to make Jean’s No Knead Herb Bread and I still make it to this day!

Kicked Up Chicken Fried Steak

From the time I was a little girl I’ve had a love affair with chicken fried steak. It’s definitely one of my top comfort foods! I love that I can make it as simple or as complex as I like and still have the same “Oh this is yummy” feeling about it. Since Mr. Comfortable and I have been on a spicy food kick lately I decided to make Kicked Up Chicken Fried Steak to satisfy both the comfort food and spicy food cravings!

Learning to Sew with Eileen

It seems as if it took me forever to schedule a day with Eileen so she could start teaching me to sew. This was entirely my fault. I started doing other things and kept forgetting to call her to arrange my lesson. She finally gave up waiting for me and told me she’d be uptown having lunch with Pete & Andi’s youngest daughter and she could come by right after. I jumped at the chance! Eileen can sew anything! And learning to sew with Eileen would be fun!

Learning to sew is fun!

Mystery Blogger Award

The absolutely amazing Maggie from Dreaming of Guatemala nominated me for this award. If you haven’t checked out her blog you’re missing something really special! I love this young woman and she inspires me, an old lady, with her optimism, her wisdom, and her faith! Thank you for the nomination, Maggie!

My friend Okoto from Okoto Enigma created this award and, in her words, the “Mystery Blogger Award is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.” So you can see why I consider this a great honor!

Now on to the questions Maggie chose for her nominees!

1. What’s a good book that you recently read? I actually haven’t been reading as much as I used to because I need new glasses. I’m restricted to the books that have large print so I’m rereading The Hunger Games trilogy.

2. I have (had) five siblings. Four brothers who were much older (24 years, 23 years, 21 years, and 12 years older) who have all passed away,  and one sister who is a mere 3 years older!

3. Oh, gosh! I have so many favorites! If I didn’t I wouldn’t be so round! Anything that falls into my “comfort food” group like Chicken Fried Steak would be really high on the list. And I keep refining my recipes for my favorites.

4. I used to play piano, flute, piccolo, and trumpet. I really need to try to find a flute again so I can start playing. It’s so relaxing and actually helps with memory!

5. If you know me you know I’m terrifying strange odd eccentric. Yeah. Let’s go with eccentric. One of my favorite lines is from the movie Collateral and requires a little background for the people who haven’t seen the movie. Tom Cruise plays Vincent, a hitman hired to kill 5 people in one night. Jamie Foxx plays Max, the unfortunate driver of the taxi Vincent hires for that night. Vincent enters a room on an upper floor while Max waits in the taxi. When Vincent shoots the man in the room the victim falls out of the window and crashes into the parked cab. When Vincent returns to the cab Max shouts, “You killed him!” and Vincent calmly responds, “No. I shot him. The bullet and the fall killed him.” Because ya gotta love accuracy!

My nominees are:

Apricots and Admiration because this blog is wonderful and funny and more people need to discover it!

New Garden Homestead because gardening, recipes, and cutting expenses! This is my kind of gal!

Mama in the Country because she’s just getting started and I know she’s going to be great!

Crazy Love Parents because I so enjoy the topics and writing and her 10 year old son did a “guest post” that blew me away!

Estonian Cuisine because Ruta is teaching us all about Estonian food and Oatmeal and Berry Cake!

Pineapple Ginger Rice

Rice is a great side dish for so many meals but plain white rice is boring! The terrific thing about rice is it can get all gussied up and fit right in with darned near anything! When I make Asian dishes or if I’m making something that has that tropical vibe I make my Pineapple Ginger Rice.

Pineapple Ginger Rice turns meals into a tropical getaway!
