With the flower beds in front of the house looking so much better I was feeling pretty good about the work so far this summer Even after getting rid of the weeds and planting the first round of new flowers there was still work going on out there. But in the vegetable garden things were not going well at all!

Did you LOOK at the pictures? This year my vegetable garden looks as though I’d died over the winter.

uhhhh the joys of having a garden. I don’t know what is going on this year but the weeds are growing like, well, WEEDS. I can barely keep up with them in the flower beds and parking pad. It hasn’t been the case in the past. Of course there have been weeds but I’ve been able to keep up, not this year. I was thinking the other day, I love a veggie garden, but glad one wasn’t possible this year because the weeds would have been unmanageable.

I’m trying to come up with a schedule so that I can manage both. The problem is if I have a bad pain day or more than one in a row my schedule would be shot.

I was thinking the same thing about it being difficult for you to get a schedule going, when the pain flares up. I have a schedule and they are still winning this year.

That’s the thing people who don’t have chronic pain don’t get. You make plans but then the pain decides to change them. I had a friend for many years. She moved but was back visiting her mom. We made plans to meet at a Big Boy one evening. But that’s when I was REALLY bad with the RSD and I had to cancel. She never spoke to me again.

oh no, that’s sad. 😦 One would think people would be more understanding.

I would have never expected it from her but that’s life. Other friends are wonderful about me cancelling if I need to.

well, then it’s like picking weeds then…there’s one less weed to suck up your nutrients 😉

Is the weather the same as the previous year? When we have the drought, my plants were crying and dying!

This June has been much hotter and MUCH drier than usual. And I didn’t really take care of the garden because I was fussing over the flower beds. But I’m praying the vegetables will forgive me and thrive.

Maybe it’s not too late to water them.

I gave them a really good drink last night and then, of course, it rained. But the rain wasn’t enough so I’m glad I watered. I’ll just keep working with them and pray!

I love your garden! The peppermints doing very well. 🙂 xxx

Usually by now my tomato plants are over 3 ft. tall and so are the peppers. My peas and beans are darn near ready to pick. This year I will be amazed if I get anything but strawberries and a few peas. Ah well. There’s always next year.

The strawberries and peas will still be yummy! 🙂 xxx

Yep! And I replanted zucchini and cucumbers and I’m going to replant bush beans. There’s always hope!

Good luck on your second round of seeds! 🙂 Some of my hot peppers and tomatoes are stunted too; not sure why. I plan put some fertilizer down, so maybe that will help. But some others nearby are growing, so it’s really puzzling why some are and some aren’t.
Your peppermint looks great! 😀 I wish I could grow it; every time I’ve tried, it died on me. 😅
I finally figured out how to make your blog email me so I won’t miss your posts! I think. We’ll see. 😂

I got one zucchini and a few cucumbers to come up. I’m going to try to weed out there tomorrow and then plant more peas and give the beans another shot. If I want to can tomato sauce I’ll have to get tomatoes from the farmers markets.

That’s a good start! 🙂 Good luck with the weeding and pea and beans!
Sorry about the tomatoes though.

I just keep telling myself the tomatoes are only for salads. lol

LOL – salads and sandwiches only! 😄
What kind of tomatoes were you growing? I went a bit nuts with tomatoes this year, trying new varieties. Black krim and purple Cherokee being two of them. And my parents wanted the usual beefmaster and sweet cherries. 🙂

I normally only do Roma’s because I can them. This year I put in a cherry tomato because Mr. C loves them on his salads. My canning tomatoes are the San Marzanos.

Ooohhh, I see. 🙂
Mmm, yes, they are fantastic on salads!
I’ve heard the San Marzanos are good canning tomatoes. Perhaps I’ll try them next year. 🙂

They’re supposed to be the best for canning. Let me know if you try them.

Oh! That’s great! 😀
I will! I have some seeds, but I didn’t plant any this year; I think I will next year. 🙂 I tried last year, but last year’s tomato crop didn’t do well at all. I’m not sure what went wrong. This year is going good so far. I wish I had thought about planting some of those this spring.

Pete started working insane hours this summer so I lost my best worker. And spending so much time in the flower beds really messed me up. Do plant your seeds next year. They make the very best canned tomatoes and sauces.

Oh no; does that mean that he may not be able to attend the wedding?
Oh my; I hope that you get back to normal soon!
I shall! 😀 I love tomatoes, and especially the sauces. I’d love to make homemade sauce sometime. I usually just buy Ragu or Preggo… 😅 I’m sure homemade would be amazing.

He didn’t think he’d make it to the rehearsal dinner but he did! And he’ll be there for the wedding. He won’t be able to stay all day but he’ll be there for the ceremony!
