It’s probably the same in a lot of places. You have moles. They’re destructive little things that can tear up a flower bed and vegetable garden in record time. They’re the bane of people who want perfectly manicured lawns. And they’re tough to defeat! But I fought the mole and the mole lost! So why do I feel so bad?

I'm a wife, mom, and grandma (known as Bam) who loves cooking, baking, gardening, and all things that go into making a cozy coop for my brood. I have a disability so you may pick up tips on how to do things when some things just don't work right!

Awwwww I was laughing all the way up until the end. I know how you feel, but it had to be done. The dogs would have just recovered it later and “played” with it until it died a sloooow painful death. 🙂

Probably true. They wouldn’t mean to kill it but they would.

Of course not, they like to play with things is all. My son’s dogs are the same way. One of them loves to play with snakes, YES snakes, and when she “plays” it to death, she lays beside it and protects it. Like it’s just sleeping, leave it alone, it’s my friend. True story.

The only dog I could really trust with small animals was my former Service Dog, Houston. He actually had two pet rats that he babied. He sometimes brought us baby rabbits and the fur wouldn’t even be wet he was so careful picking them up.

My grandparents had three little windmills at the edge of their yard–wooden, about three feet tall, able to pivot with the wind like a weathercock. They believed that the sound those windmills made deterred moles. I have no proof that it didn’t work. J.

I see that Mr. C will be building those as soon as we’re done with the duck cabin! Thank you for the tip!

I agree with what Margaret said. 🙂 I know that my dogs (and cats) have done that with moles, shrews, mice, rabbits, and snakes. Once they get on the trail, they don’t give up on their prey easily!

The dogs will chase rabbits to their boundaries. We don’t have a fence so I trained them to stop at the property lines. Rent thinks every critter wants to play. Henry usually ignores things. But they both were around when Houston had his pet rats so they are gentle with little things.

Wow, that is really great that you trained them to stop. 🙂
Aww, that’s nice. 😊 Pet rats sound quite interesting! And the rats didn’t mind him picking them up?
Kind of reminds me of a dog I had when I was a kid. She is the reason I have my cat, Angel. Apparently, she brought the kitten here, because she was too small to come on her own. It’s hard to imagine bigger dogs being gentle with smaller creatures. The other dogs I had would not have been so gentle…

Houston got his rats when they were just babies. They got used to him sniffing and nuzzling them and they thought he was great. They follow him like he was mama.

He was an old guy and his retirement was fabulous so at least he got to do whatever he wanted. The funny thing is he still wanted to work.

I’m glad he had a good retirement! Aww, that’s so cool that he still liked to do work! 🙂

I feel your pain; I can’t even vacuum a spider without feeling bad!

I just can’t feel bad for spiders. They terrify me. But that furry guy…
