About

Hi! I’m Elizabeth. Welcome to The Comfortable Coop! I’m a wife, the mother of three, and grandmother of eight. I’m also the mama to two very spoiled dogs my husband and I call “The Boys.” My desire to make the most comfortable “nest” for my brood inspired The Comfortable Coop. Everything I write about is something I do to make my home inviting and warm for my family and friends.*

What is this blog about?

You’ll find a little bit about almost everything here. I’ll discuss vegetable gardening and canning, dehydrating, and freezing food.

I love to cook and bake and I’ll share recipes, successes, and failures in the kitchen.

Organization and saving money are high on my list of priorities. You’ll learn the tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years and what I’m learning now.

Growing food isn’t just about vegetables so I’ll share my experiences raising rabbits for meat and chickens for eggs and meat.

What is this blog about? It’s about all the successes and failures that go into making a comfortable coop.

I welcome your comments, suggestions, and questions.

Please join me in my sometimes wonderful, sometimes hysterically disastrous journey to create a (nearly) perfect home.

*In the months since I started this blog I’ve realized I also write about a lot of things that have very little to do with making my home inviting. I tend to have “stream of consciousness” conversations, mostly with myself, and I write the same way.

  1. I’m a huge fan of yours!! I love your sense of humor and reminding me to laugh!! Here’s hoping your green thumb rubs off on my thumbs ability to kill any living plant!!!
    Bravo on a terrific job!!

    1. Our daughter is the kiss of death for plants. I gave her potted herbs and before we even left she’d knocked over a pot, broken it, and then stepped on the plant. She even managed to kill a plant that actually grows and thrives in just water. How the heck she managed to kill something that will grow in a cup on the windowsill and can even stand being totally dry for several days is beyond me. I love my baby girl but she’ll never get another plant from me. I feel like I’m walking them to the gallows!

  2. Beth, I tried to post on your article about Waiting for Vegetables. I got this: Sorry, this comment could not be posted. Hmmmm . . . I wonder why? Any ideas? I’m HERE, so why can’t I post there?

  3. Hey mom, I recently nominated you for the 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge and I hope that you will accept this nomination. I chose you because you have been a healing balm to me and you have had the most impact on me since the first day you reached out to me. I’m still new to blogging but I really feel like you took me in with open arms as if it didn’t matter that I was new here. Forgive me for my silence lately, the work schedule can get a bit hectic at times. You can find all the details for this challenge if you go to my site at https://oaktownvibes.wordpress.com/2016/10/07/3-days-3-quotes-challenge-day-1/ . I love your soul. Peace and love to you.

  5. Looks like a great blog!! I live in a regular neighborhood, with regular neighbors and 3 chickens (we’re only allowed to have 2, shhhh, it’s our secret) so the title of your blog intrigued me…started following you, looks like we have a lot in common…happy blogging 😀

    1. That’s Houston. He was my Service Dog for many years. He was an Anatolian Shepherd Dog. The dog who was supposed to take over Houston’s job is also an Anatolian Shepherd. I’ll be posting my favorite picture of him very soon. He’s handsome and sweet but he’s no Houston! lol

    1. Thank you! I saw those sweet faces and fell in love! I could see myself as one of those people with 35 dogs but I like keeping my husband so… The most we ever had was five and 3 of them were our kids’ dogs that somehow stayed behind when the kids moved out. lol
