I'm a wife, mom, and grandma (known as Bam) who loves cooking, baking, gardening, and all things that go into making a cozy coop for my brood. I have a disability so you may pick up tips on how to do things when some things just don't work right!

    1. Umm. Actually, no. We can’t try to have her sit on the eggs in the tub so we had to let her egg go. Mr. C is working extra hard on their log cabin so she can lay eggs and brood them properly.

      1. It really was and I’m an idiot! I threw the egg away! I wasn’t sure what time she laid it and was worried about it being too warm. It wasn’t warm in there and that egg would have kept for HOURS anyway. Argh! Tomorrow I’m keeping the egg!

      2. I’ve been away from my farm too long. LOL My chickens there laid wherever the felt like it and I’d go to their favorite spots ad’s pick up the eggs. I never worried about climate controlled egg laying then!

      3. I didn’t even know there was a such of thing. When I had chickens, I just picked them up too. What is climate control egg laying???? Does it mean if they have warmed it up the egg is going bad??

      4. No. I just mean I got so concerned over ŵhether the egg had been in the tub too long. It couldn’t have been in there more than a few hours and the bathroom isn’t 100° so I don’t know why I worried.

    1. We had a lovely day. She’s been cranky with us since we took the eggs. Me yesterday ad’s Mr. C today. Given that Penguin has been courting her in an assault sort of way she probably had ducklings in mind. But were really getting things going to start building their cabin then she can keep her eggs.

      1. She was so loud and so cranky today I tried giving her an egg back. She wasn’t buying it. She pushed it with her bill and continued hollering at me. All day. For hours. I’m back to trying to talk Mr. C into letting me prepare her for the freezer!

      2. LOL! “An egg?” So it wasn’t her egg you tried to give back? 😂

We had two fake eggs made out of marble (or some kind of rock) that we used to use when we had
chickens, and they didn’t buy that either. XD

Oh my. Doesn’t she realize she is not helping her case for staying alive and out of the freezer? XD

      3. It was one of her eggs but she seemed to be confused by its mysterious reappearance. Today she hasn’t laid an egg and she’s THIS much closer to the freezer! lol

      4. I was threatening her today. She usually lays before we get up in the morning but today…no egg in the morning….no egg in the afternoon. Finally Pete came over and used our bathroom before he left. He forgot and turned the light out. I went in to turn it back on about 10 minutes later and EGG!

      5. LOL, she decided to abandon her laying schedule for a day, and Pete tricked her by turning off the light so that she would think it was the next day. XD

Does she let you know when she lays? We used to have a hen that pretty much told the whole neighborhood that she laid an egg with what we called the “egg song.” It was a specific squawk, that all of the other hens and roosters would echo. And when we heard that, we knew there was an egg. 😂

      6. We tried the light thing but she waited until Pete turned the light off. Pete, Andi, and Estrella are coming for a late dinner tonight. Estrella is in the school play this evening. If Freckles is still holding out I’m going to have Pete turn out the light. Maybe her schedule is changing and she’s going to lay at night. Maybe she thinks she’ll get to keep the egg if we don’t know when she’s going to lay it. Maybe she’s just a pain in the butt! lol

      7. Uh oh! If I remember correctly, when our chickens started to lay eggs, their laying schedule was a bit off for the first little while. Maybe the same is true for ducks?
Whatever the case may be, I hope she gets back to laying soon. 🙂

      8. Awww. 🙂

I’m curious – what kind of calcium supplement do you buy for a duck? We used to buy crumbled oyster shells and we would crunch eggshells into the feed for our chickens. I’m not sure if that would work for a duck though…

Awww! ❤ ❤ ❤ I understand that, though I’ve never had a duck. I want to someday though!

      9. I hope it works! 🙂 C’mon Freckles, eat your yummy oyster shells like a good little girl!

I’ve never heard of CalciBoost. I had to look that up. XD I guess they don’t carry it around here either.
