The Valiant Blogger Award

Earlier I posted the link to this award and now I’m accepting. It really belongs to my courageous husband!

Liz of Daily Warriors created this award and invited me to accept. I’ve never thought of myself as valiant but I suppose, no matter what our personal struggles are, when we overcome them or even learn how to accept them, we are all valiant. I’m honored that Liz thought I worthy of this amazing award! And if you haven’t checked out Daily Warriors yet, you really should. It’s for everyone who faces struggles from serious illness to clutter around the home. Hey! I qualify in at least two (or 200) categories!

The Valiant Blogger Award

As you can see at the Hall of Valor people are overcoming problems that most of us face.

The greatest challenge of my life was when Mr. Comfortable got cancer. Being the sole caregiver of a cancer patient was a daunting task! I did have help from Pete and his girlfriend, Andi with some of the things that needed to be done. But the down and dirty physical care fell to me. Feeding tube, 5 hour chemotherapy treatments and their aftermath, daily radiation, hospitalizations, and everything else, including everything around the house and taking care of the dogs was my responsibility.

The Valiant Blogger Award

At first I was terrified. I didn’t think I’d be able to manage it physically. It was tough and there were many nights I was in horrible pain and wanted to quit. But of course, you can’t just ask cancer to take a week off. And, in spite of some tough days and even tougher nights, we got through it and I believe our marriage is even stronger now because of it. And as I started doing the things that needed to be done I realized I could do them.

My advice to anyone struggling with any problem is to be confident that you can overcome it. It may not be easy. In fact, it probably won’t be. No matter how big or small the problem is it can feel overwhelming. But telling yourself that you will succeed helps you to do just that. It’s also important to allow yourself to mess up in the process. I’ve made mistakes in cooking, organizing, and in taking care of Mr. C but we’re still here and I’m stronger and smarter for the efforts.

I’d like to nominate Dinosaurs, Donkeys, and MS for this award. Dizzy and friend are an inspiration to me and I think you’ll enjoy their blog!

I’d also like to nominate Dreaming of Guatemala because Maggie is overcoming obstacles to achieving her dream. This young woman is simply amazing!

RULES:
1. Post the award on your blog.
2. Provide a link to the Hall of Valor.
3. In 200 words or less, share about the greatest challenge in your life and HOW you got through it.
4. Give one piece of advice to people who are struggling with something in their life.
5. Thank the person who nominated you, and nominate a new blogger for the award.

Make sure to let the bloggers you chose for the award know that you nominated them.
Liz of Daily Warriors will list down each of the posts of the nominated bloggers in the Hall of Valor page.
Each blogger’s post will be listed there only once, so we can give recognition to more people in this amazing community.

    1. Well, I didn’t mention the times he’d get sick after chemo and then I’d get sick! lol Or the nights that darned alarm on his feeding machine would go off RIGHT after I went back to bed and I’d want to just pretend I didn’t hear it.

      1. Here is the dark secret of my life: I am not familiar with TV shows and/or commercials because we do not watch TV. To clarify, I pull up stuff we do want to watch on my laptop which is then connected by a cable to a screen on which the stuff is projected. I do not have time to waste on someone else’s programming, so I do my own programming, in my own time.

      2. My childhood was spent in a country with no commercials. But I remember the first television set, a tiny thing with a magnifying lens in front of it. Neighbors got together in the evening to watch one hour of programming.

      3. Yes it was Russia, and I was a terribly spoiled child until I went to school. That’s when I found out the meaning of antisemitism and the need to stand up and fight or be abused in every way. My cousin, a tear older than I, was charged with the responsibility to protect me on the way to and from school. He took it very seriously: he taught me to stand back to back and fight tooth and nail. I grew up a fighter. I am trying to convince my oldest granddaughter that adversity forms strong character, but so far I have not succeeded.

      4. You’re right and I hope she understands. I had some pretty awful things happen as a child (and adult) and they made me really tough. I think that’s why I could tell the robber “No.” when he had a gun to my head. You have to stand up.

      5. Ah! You and I have more in common than we both realize. I once talked a rapist into leaving me alone. Next day he was waiting for me at the college entrance with a bouquet of flowers. But generally, my first reaction is to hit first and ask questions later.

      6. Neh, it’s having a fighting personality. You know the famous story about Estee Lauder and a robber: she told him that she worked hard all her life to earn her diamonds (she had a phenomenal collection and was sparkling like a Christmas tree), so he could kill her, but she was not giving them up. He turned tail and ran. She was in her 70s, I believe.
